Bill Asta
Electrical Foreman

Bill Asta has been with Meisner since August 4th, 1999 and is now our head foreman in charge of the St. Regis Hotel & Residences project, which is a 25-story, mixed-use, five-star hotel/timeshare/condominium on the beach in Fort Lauderdale. Bill is a licensed journeyman, and has worked his way up through the company to his present position. He has been responsible for supervising as many as 30 people on the St. Regis project. We want to take this opportunity to thank Bill for his tireless determination and successful project focus.

MEI: What was your most memorable experience on the job?
BA: I can't say any particular experience stands out but I will say that my current experience at the St. Regis project has been memorable in the sense of being the most encompassing and the most overall responsibility. I like to learn and extract something from each project that contributes to my career growth and that's certainly been the case at the St. Regis.

MEI: Where do you see yourself in five years?
BA: I see myself working at Meisner Electric. I'm a loyal employee when I like the company I work for and don't move around more than necessary. I worked 21 years for the same company in the Import/Export business out of Hauppauge, NY. I worked in the same field for another company for 7 years before coming to Meisner Electric. My brother was an electrician at the time and encouraged me to give this profession a try.

MEI: What advice would you give to new Meisner Electric employees?
BA: You can go far with Meisner Electric if you put in the effort. Six years ago I started as a helper and look what I've accomplished. I did my apprenticeship in three years becoming licensed in my third year. I'm impressed with how well Meisner treats their employees. They operate like a large company but they still have a small company personality.

MEI: What is your favorite childhood memory?
BA: That has to be the time I was stuck at the top of the Ferris wheel at Coney Island with my Dad for two hours! I was having a great time up there but my Dad wasn't.

MEI: What is your favorite dish?
BA: Pizza. I also like the fare at Flannigan's or any other neighborhood restaurant that serves high quality food at a reasonable price. I can't see paying extra for a name when the food isn't worth it.

MEI: What is your idea of a great evening?
BA: I need just three things for a great evening at home: Sunday night football, the remote control, and a cold beer.

MEI: What is your favorite entertainment?
BA: I enjoy a round of Golf. I also enjoy playing Chess. In fact, I am a Chess Master, which accounts for only 1% of all chess players. When I was attending college at NYU in New York City, I would "hustle" other chess players in Washington Square Park. I made enough to pay my bills and then some.

MEI: What is your favorite movie?
BA: The Godfather 1 and 2. Godfather 3 was not at the same level. In case you're wondering, I also like The Sopranos. Like most Italian-Americans, it's not the criminal activity, although that part is fun to watch from a distance, it's the interaction of the characters that are portrayed realistically. Anyone of Italian extraction that grew up in an Italian neighborhood has known or seen these characters in real life. The Mob represents a very small portion of the Italian culture, which we know is passionate about food, art, music, religion, and science.

MEI: What is your favorite sports team?
BA: The NY Yankees. In the early 1960's, I lived in the Bronx, NY very close to Yankee Stadium. Needless to say I must have been to every home game during the season.

MEI: What is your dream vacation?
BA: A week in Las Vegas without worrying about expenses.

MEI: What would surprise us about you?
BA: I have a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from NYU. I also have a minor in Applied Mathematics and Statistics.
