The following list are classes that MTI sponsors for its employees.  Tuition is free although some classes may require books or materials.  Meisner offers these classes so you can expand your knowledge and skill level.  As you prepare yourself for the next step in your career, Meisner gains a more experienced employee.  Classes are available to all full-time employees in good standing with at least three months tenure.


The following are the classes we are currently conducting.  If you are interested in taking a class, contact the Training Department for class times and dates.

Apprenticeship program:
The electrical Apprenticeship Program is a 4 year nationally accredited institution.  It is held 2 nights a week during the normal school year from August to June.  Classes cover electrical math, Ohm's law, series and parallel circuits, transformers and power factoring, motor controls, residential load calculations, electrical safety, fire alarms and extensive use of the N.E.C. This course is the best preparation for the journeyman's examination.  Besides receiving a nationally recognized diploma, awards are also given for "Top of the Class" and Best Attendance.  You also will receive monthly evaluations from your foreman.

Minimum requirements to attend:

  • Over 90 days employment
  • Recommendation of your current foreman
  • At least a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to read and write English


Classes meet on selected Monday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Adult CPR*

Learn basic first aid and important life skills. This is a National Safety Council approved course. Your certification is good for two years for the CPR and three years for the First Aid.

Basic First Aid* 
-Course Number: ESP3320
Learn basic first aid and important life skills. This is a National Safety Council approved course. Your certification is good for three years.

Blueprint Reading 
-Course Number: ESP1320
Learn the basics of reading blueprints, symbols and legends, with a heavy emphasis on scaling and architectural rulers.

Electrical Skills I 
-Course Number: ESP1120
Learn how to bend EMT 90s, offsets and saddle bends, as well as supporting requirements.

Electrical Skills II 
-Course Number: ESP1220
Learn how to pull wire, circuit color coding, as well as pipe and box fill calculations.

Fire Alarm Systems I 
-Course Number: ESP4120
Part 1: Uncover the mystery of fire alarm systems including device locations and mounting heights, conduit layouts, terminations, trouble shooting and NFPA and NEC regulations.

Fire Alarm Systems II 
-Course Number: ESP4220
Part 2: Connecting devices, annunciation circuits and panels.

Fire Alarm Systems III 
-Course Number: ESP4320
Part 3: Component demonstration, hands-on testing, and troubleshooting techniques.

Generators & Transfer Switches 
-Course Number: ESP1920
Learn the basics of installation layouts, conduit installation, controls and status monitoring.

Health Care Facilities 
-Course Number: ESP2120
This class covers the different types of electrical systems used in hospitals and other specialty health care facilities. You will also learn about AHCA and NFPA regulations.

Motor & Lighting Controls 
-Course Number: ESP1520
You will learn how to install time clocks, photocells and contactors. You will also learn how a motor starter works and how they are used in an energy management system.

NEC Code Changes 
-Course Number: ESP2320
Review of changes affecting the current National Electrical Code. Focuses on those changes most relevant to electricians on the job site.

OSHA 10-hour Certification I* 
-Course Number: ESP3420
Part 1: Learn how to recognize unsafe conditions, handle an OSHA inspection, and OSHAs requirements for fall protection, trenching, scaffolds, ladders, stairways, and the importance of a safety program.

OSHA 10-hour Certification II* 
-Course Number: ESP3520
Part 2: Continuation of safety training.

Test Equipment 
-Course Number: ESP1420
Learn how to safely use a volt-ohm meter, circuit tracer, Megger, cable length meter, phase rotation meter, and underground locator.

* Class is required for all current and future Foremen.
