Construction of a new 90,000 square-foot Marine and Atmospheric Science Laboratory Facility and Classrooms. Unique to this facility is an 8,520 square-foot state-of-the-art SUSTAIN (Surge-Structure-Atmosphere Interaction) research facility to study and test three-dimensionally coupled wind, waves, and tidal surge and their combined impacts on structures in extreme conditions such as a Category 5 hurricane making landfall. The laboratory exists as a unique resource for fundamental studies on air-sea interactions, wave dynamics, and boundary layer turbulence while providing an experimental test-bed for model development. Also included in the complex is 47,942 square-foot Marine Life Sciences Center designed to study all species of aquatic life found in the region.
